In his artist statement he sais: The desire to represent the 'real is the main source of inspiration for my work. The real is informed by my every day social-cultural life experiences of both African and European backgrounds. The world has become a global village in which cultural boundaries are no longer permanent. As a formally trained artist I am a product of both the European and African heritages, and I cannot deny these two backgrounds in my practice as an artist. I integrate my African heritage with positive attributes of European art. As a result of this, my art is conscious of both African social-cultural values and European modernism. I am conscious of Picassos's achievements as an artist. From him I have learnt how to transform traditional African sculptural forms of my ancestors into personal painterly forms of expression. In each work I produce I try to share my imagined passing real experiences with the public. As I produce each work my intentisons is not to provide permanent answers as the titles of the work might suggest, but rather I call upon the viewer to join me in the process of thinking and analysis to extend my thoughts beyond my personal experiences represented in the titles of my work.
Kizito graduated in fine arts from Makerere University, Kampala. In 2003 he completed his PhD and was given a 2 year scholarship to Burren College of Arts in Ireland.
Kizito Maria is a philanthropist, social entrepreneur and community activist and his time at Burren college gave the inspiration to creat a different art education institurion, and in 2006 the idea about Nagenda International Academy for Art and Design (NIAAD) was born.
